Després d’un temps de treballar com a model, debutà a Kiss Daddy Goodnight (1987), de P. Ily. Posteriorment interpretà The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), de T. Gilliam, i Dangerous Liaisons (1988), de S. Frears, film que li donà popularitat. Però l’èxit li arribà amb la comèdia Mad Dog and Glory (1993), de J. McNaughton, i, sobretot, Pulp Fiction (1994), de Q. Tarantino. Posteriorment ha protagonitzat, entre d’altres, A Month by the Lake (1995), de J. Irvin, Beautiful Girls (1996), de T.
