Debutà al teatre a dotze anys, i a disset protagonitzà la telenovel·la Families. A Londres fou nominat al premi Olivier de teatre al millor actor revelació, i quan marxà a Broadway rebé una nominació als premis Tony. Shopping (1994), de P.W.S.Anderson, fou el seu debut al cinema, on sovint ha interpretat personatges d’ambigua moralitat darrere una imatge atractiva.
