Professor a Bristol, al Trinity College d’Oxford i a Cambridge. Es dedicà als problemes epistemològics dins la línia neorealista. Les seves obres principals són Scientific Thought (1923), The Mind and its Place in Nature (1925), Five Types of Ethical Theory (1930).
