Fou notari i exercí càrrecs polítics. Traductor de Ciceró, Sèneca i Boccaccio, i autor de Zedekunst (‘L’art de viure’, 1586), tractat d’ètica estoica. Defensor de la llengua nativa, escriví també poesia i comèdies.
