Pintor i historiador de l’art nord-americà.
Estudià art a Londres. Conreà el paisatge i el retrat de grup (Autoretrat amb els pares de l’artista, 1788, The New York Historial Society). Escriví History of the Rise and Progress of the Arts of Design in the United States (1834).
