Després de treballar com a model, debutà el 1981 al film Choices. Tot seguit interpretà diversos papers secundaris, com a Young Doctors in Love (1982), Blame It on Rio (1984) o About Last Night (1986). El seu primer èxit entre el públic fou a Ghost (1990), de Jerry Zucker. A continuació ha participat en diverses pel·lícules: A Few Good Men (1992), Indecent Proposal (1993), Disclosure (1994), The Scarlet Letter (1995), Striptease (1996), G.I.Jane (1997), Deconstructing Harry (1997), i Passion of Mind (2000).
