Féu estudis sobre la renda nacional, el creixement, l’estadística i els progressos en l’aparell teòric (salaris, capital, utilitats i interès). És autor d'Economic Growth and Structure (1965), Economic Growth of Nations: Total Output and Production Structure (1971) i Population Capital and Growth (1974). El 1971 rebé el premi Nobel d’economia.
