S'educà a Oxford. La seva obra, composta abans dels vint-i-cinc anys, és típicament renaixentista: The affectionate Shepherd (1594), Cynthia (1595) i The Encomion of Lady Pecunia (1598). Molts dels seus poemes foren atribuïts a Shakespeare.
