Professor a Princeton, es dedicà especialment a l’estudi de la geometria diferencial i de la topologia. Treballà amb M.Wedderburn, John W.Young i J.H.C.Whitehead. Publicà Projective Geometry (1910-08), en 2 volums, Analysis Situs (1922), The Foundations of Differential Geometry (1932), etc.
